Sugar Cherry is a large currant type coming most likely from a cerasiforme crossed with a pimpinellifolium. They act more like a currant, with very wild-like growth habit, and healthy long slender vines. The fruits are born in symmetrical trusses of a dozen 3/4″ dark red cherries a piece. This is one of the more productive varieties that is also found interesting by people in the local/organic restaurant and food trade as an impeccable salad tomato. Introduced to the Seed Saver’s Exchange Yearbook in 1994.
