Purple Calabash

Out of stock

Thomas Jefferson brought this variety north introducing it to Virginia from Guatemala in the mid 1700’s. Tomatoes were among the crops brought to the colonies after the northern native people’s crops were removed. It is deeply pleated with rich purple flesh. Deep pleating like this is evidence of this tomatoes relation to some of the first domesticated tomatoes. The flavor is dark and smokey, although the plants prefer a moist soil and do not produce as early as most Russian blacks and purples. A true beauty as a summer centerpiece.
Indeterminate, RL, Purple, Fluted all purpose. About 20 seeds per packet.
