An indigenous heirloom from precolumbian Peru, most likely originating with Inca plant breeders, Ovita is popular with young children due to the small pink pleated pear fruits. Similar in appearance to Tlacolula from Oaxaca Mexico, this Peruvian tomato has better disease tolerance and production, as well as better flavor, if not being quite as large as Tlacolula. The foliage is a bright green regular leaf and the plants can get very large with many suckers, reaching up to 7 feet long. If kept from frost and disease, the plants can maintain production into the winter being fully indeterminate. The flavor is sweet and earthy, with somewhat hollow seed sections that would be good for mini-stuffers, with shredded sunroot or potato mixed with puffed amaranth grain or nuts and mushrooms. Andean tomato breeders really know their stuff! 15-20 seeds per packet
